Most laptops have a built in modem. The HP modem electronics are sometimes on the motherboard or on a separate card. If your TOSHIBA modem has failed then the first piece of equipment to check is the modem cable. Connecting another modem to the line may help to eliminate any line faults. We can supply internal modem boards for most TOSHIBA laptops. Machines with faulty onboard modems might have to resort to a PCMCIA. From Hardware: Power off the computer. Remove the battery pack and measure the voltage between battery terminals 1(+) and 6(ground). If the voltage is still less than 7.5 Vdc after recharging, replace the battery. To check the battery charge operation, use a discharged battery pack or a battery pack that has less than 50% of the total power remaining when installed in the computer.
