That is exactly what happens in your laptop computer - without efficient cooling the CPU will overheat and maybe burnout. New Intel processors have thermal protection. Most AMD Borehamwood processors just get cooked. Manufacturers prefer to supply the whole heatsink/fan assembly. Replacing the fan can be a simple five minute job or involve removal of the whole Sony motherboard. We have a range of Borehamwood generic fans that may be useful when original parts are no longer available from the Acer manufacturer.
