No Power - When the power button is pressed, nothing happens, power indicator does not light up. Is the notebook connected to power (AC or a charged battery)? Connect AC or battery. Try another known good battery or AC adapter. Power ok? Replace the faulty AC Adapter or Battery. Replace motherboard if still faulty. With more people using Wireless Compaq PCMCIA and Cardbus adapters for networking at home and at work, we are seeing a lot of laptops with damaged PCMCIA ports. The problem seems to occur when the laptop is carried in a case without unplugging the Kingston-upon-Hull wireless card. This causes the card to push into the port and break it or dislodge it from the socket on the motherboard. In some cased the Kingston-upon-Hull PCMCIA slot is soldered onto the motherboard and the force can pull the tracks off the pcb surface. Dislodged and broken ports can be repaired, but soldered ones may require a replacement of the whole motherboard. This expensive repair can be easily avoided unplugging the card before putting it in a carry case.
