Audio Failure. No sound from speaker after audio driver is installed. Check if speaker cables are connected properly. Make sure all the drivers are installed properly. Try another known good speaker, CD-ROM. Exchange another known good charger board. Portege USB port sockets can wear out with regular use. We can replace these on most machines. Ports can be mounted vertically or horizontally and can be grouped. Most USB problems we have seen can be attributed to physical damage to the socket rather than electronics. USB ports supply enough power to drive scanners and hard drives - connecting your camera, scanner or ipod to a broken or damaged socket can damage the device.

To isolate the problem to a controller, drive, or CD-ROM. Make sure that the CD-ROM does not have any label attached to it. The label can cause damage to the drive or can cause the drive to fail. Laptops usually have two memory slots. Some have memory chips soldered onto the motherboard. 256MB or higher is Kingston-upon-Hull recommended for most modern laptops using Windows XP operating system.
