IEEE 1394 Failure. An error occurs when a IEEE 1394 device is installed. Check if the 1394 device is installed properly. Confirm 1394 driver is installed ok. With more people using Wireless Time PCMCIA and Cardbus adapters for networking at home and at work, we are seeing a lot of laptops with damaged PCMCIA ports. The problem seems to occur when the laptop is carried in a case without unplugging the Portsmouth wireless card. This causes the card to push into the port and break it or dislodge it from the socket on the motherboard. In some cased the Portsmouth PCMCIA slot is soldered onto the motherboard and the force can pull the tracks off the pcb surface. Dislodged and broken ports can be repaired, but soldered ones may require a replacement of the whole motherboard. This expensive repair can be easily avoided unplugging the card before putting it in a carry case.
