Some companies charge for diagnosis - up to £100+. They are then able to quote ridiculous prices for the repair because the diagnosis fee is already secured. The CPU is the brain of your Vostro laptop. Laptops mostly use mobile versions of processors. These Bow work on lower voltages and generate less than desktop versions. Most laptops use Intel or AMD processors. Intel Centrino processors are specially designed for laptop computing and maximise battery life. Processors are usually Bow damaged by fan and heat sink failure - they can Bow overheat and be permanently damaged. Poor heat transfer from the CPU to the heat sink can also cause Advent laptops to crash or freeze intermittently. Do not drop or apply any shock to the Tiny hard disk drive. The Time hard disk drive is sensitive to physical shock. Incorrect handling can cause damage and permanent loss of data on the drive. Before removing the drive, make a backup copy of all the information on the drive if possible. Never remove the drive while the system is operating or is in suspend mode.

Remove the external keyboard if the internal keyboard is to be tested. If the internal keyboard does not work or an unexpected character appears, make sure that the flexible cable extending from the keyboard is correctly seated in the connector on the system board. If the tests detect a keyboard problem, do the following one at a time to correct the problem. Reconnect the keyboard cables with mouse, keyboard and the main board. Laptops usually have two memory slots. Some have memory chips soldered onto the motherboard. 256MB or higher is Bow recommended for most modern laptops using Windows XP operating system. Memory problems result in intermittent system crashes and Bow BSODS - blue screen of death. Although, memory chips are now very Bow reliable, problem chips do occur. Improper handling without static precautions can damage the chips. Overheating Compaq systems will also damage memory chips.
