With more people using Wireless eMachines PCMCIA and Cardbus adapters for networking at home and at work, we are seeing a lot of laptops with damaged PCMCIA ports. The problem seems to occur when the laptop is carried in a case without unplugging the Catford wireless card. This causes the card to push into the port and break it or dislodge it from the socket on the motherboard. In some cased the Catford PCMCIA slot is soldered onto the motherboard and the force can pull the tracks off the pcb surface. Dislodged and broken ports can be repaired, but soldered ones may require a replacement of the whole motherboard. This expensive repair can be easily avoided unplugging the card before putting it in a carry case. To get the eMachines system out of standby mode you need to press and release the power on button.

If the touchpad doesn’t work, do the following actions one at a time to correct the problem. After rebooting, run Tracking Pad PS2 Mode Driver. For example, run Syn touch driver. Run utility with the PS/2 mouse function and check if the mouse is working. At ACPI mode. Windows power management control panel set power button behaviour. You could set "standby", "power off" or "hibernate"(must enable hibernate function power button function. Continue pushing power button over 4 seconds will force system off at ACPI mode.
