Some companies charge for diagnosis - up to £100+. They are then able to quote ridiculous prices for the repair because the diagnosis fee is already secured. A few of our customers sent their machines to manufacturers, paid a £100+ diagnosis fee and were quoted £600+ for the repair. They declined and came to us for a much more cost effective repair.

Other companies expect you to pay hourly rates. This is flawed logic as a good engineer takes less time to complete a repair than a bad one. It means you pay extra for their incompetence. LAN Test Error. An error occurs when a LAN device is installed. Check if BIOS setup is ok. Board-level Troubleshooting or replace motherboard. The main function of a Northolt fan in a laptop is to cool the CPU. eMachines Processors can generate 65Watt of heat in a very small area. Imagine a 60Watt lightbulb with a surface area of one sq.cm - that would get really Northolt hot. That is exactly what happens in your laptop computer - without efficient cooling the CPU will overheat and maybe burnout. New Intel processors have thermal protection. Most AMD Northolt processors just get cooked. Manufacturers prefer to supply the whole heatsink/fan assembly. Replacing the fan can be a simple five minute job or involve removal of the whole Advent motherboard. We have a range of Northolt generic fans that may be useful when original parts are no longer available from the Compaq manufacturer.
