Most LCD/TFT screens are damaged by impact. Dropping laptop or stepping on them causes the glass in the screens to crack. One customer reported that his cat tried to attack the fish on his wallpaper and cracked the screen. Shutting the Brompton lid of the laptop with a pen on the keyboard will also destroy your screen. The Travelmate liquid then escapes into other layers of the panel. If you see cracks on the screen with a rainbow effect, your screen is a write off. It will need to be replaced with an identical unit. It is very rare to find Brompton compatibility between screen and in most cases only an identical replacement will work. Connecting a non-compatible may damage the Brompton motherboard or the new screen. Blemishes may appear on your LCD screen. These can be caused be excessive pressure on parts of the screen. Electronic faults on LCD panels include bands or blank areas on the Evo screen. Remove the external keyboard if the internal keyboard is to be tested. If the internal keyboard does not work or an unexpected character appears, make sure that the flexible cable extending from the keyboard is correctly seated in the connector on the system board. If the tests detect a keyboard problem, do the following one at a time to correct the problem. Reconnect the keyboard cables with mouse, keyboard and the main board.

The motherboard is the main circuit board in your Brompton laptop. Most laptops have only one circuit board. There are connectors for the CPU, memory, drives and the display on the motherboard. Liquid spills are a major cause of Brompton motherboard damage. Power sockets are another area where damage occurs. Electrical surges and plugging an incorrect AC adapter to your laptop can also damage your motherboard. New motherboard can be very Brompton expensive. We can repair about 90% of faults on motherboards - others will need replacing. The Compaq CMOS setup allows you to configure how you want the Compaq BIOS and devices to operate. Certain setting are relevent to how the software behaves too. Try using the default setting when trouble shooting your Compaq laptop.
