The transformer on Toshiba inverter may burn out and cause a backlight problem There are many cables within your Vaio laptop. There may be cables to connect the floppy drive, hard drive, display, inverter and CD Drive. Most cables have no problems. The inverter/display cable can have wear and tear problems. That cable is flexed every time the screen lid is opened and shut. A lot of Travelmate cables get damaged when customer decide to dismantle their laptops. Cables are designed to be removed from their connectors by pulling the connector out - NOT YANKING THE WIRE. Many manufactures are now refusing to supply cables that connect the LCD to the motherboard - apparently the whole screen needs to be replaced(?). Be very careful with those cables.

The Vaio keyboard is the main Dell interface between you and your Burnham laptop. Laptop keyboard faults mainly result from liquid spills, wines/beers are very common, and from wear and tear. Most keyboards have a plastic Burnham membrane where contacts are made by pressure on the keys. When liquids enter the membrane the contact points become ineffective. Sometimes keyboards behave normally after a spill but later fail as the Burnham contacts are corroded away. In most cases the keypad needs to be replaced. In some cases only second user Sony keypads are available as some manufacturers are reluctant to supply replacement part. Newer laptops are sold without floppy drives. The Dell CDRW and RAM cards have now replaced the 1.44Mb floppy drive. Faults on Burnham floppy drive can be caused by dirt, faluty disks being inserted and getting stuck in the drive. Floppy drives still Burnham provide the most convenient method of transferring small amounts of data between laptops and backups.
