No Fix - No Fee is the best way.
Some companies charge for diagnosis - up to £100+. They are then able to quote ridiculous prices for the repair because the diagnosis fee is already secured. A few of our customers sent their machines to manufacturers, paid a £100+ diagnosis fee and were quoted £600+ for the repair. They declined and came to us for a much more cost effective repair.

Other companies expect you to pay hourly rates. This is flawed logic as a good engineer takes less time to complete a repair than a bad one. It means you pay extra for their incompetence. One minute over the hour and you pay for and extra hour, why?? Worse still, they expect you to pay even when they don't fix your laptop.

The Easy One keyboard is the main eMachines interface between you and your Cuffley laptop. Laptop keyboard faults mainly result from liquid spills, wines/beers are very common, and from wear and tear. Most keyboards have a plastic Cuffley membrane where contacts are made by pressure on the keys. When liquids enter the membrane the contact points become ineffective. Sometimes keyboards behave normally after a spill but later fail as the Cuffley contacts are corroded away. In most cases the keypad needs to be replaced. In some cases only second user Advent keypads are available as some manufacturers are reluctant to supply replacement part. The audio connecters can get worn with regular use or if the cable is yanked. These are usually soldered onto the motherboard or on a separate audio board. Replacing the audio boards is quite easy. Re-soldering the sockets on the motherboard involves removing the motherboard and can be a very difficult repair. Most people only use the speaker connection and that is the one that frequently gets damaged.

Most USB problems we have seen can be attributed to physical damage to the socket rather than electronics. USB ports supply enough power to drive scanners and hard drives - connecting your camera, scanner or ipod to a broken or damaged socket can damage the device. If the touchpad doesn’t work, do the following actions one at a time to correct the problem. After rebooting, run Tracking Pad PS2 Mode Driver. For example, run Syn touch driver. Run utility with the PS/2 mouse function and check if the mouse is working.
