Remove the external keyboard if the internal keyboard is to be tested. If the internal keyboard does not work or an unexpected character appears, make sure that the flexible cable extending from the keyboard is correctly seated in the connector on the system board. If the tests detect a keyboard problem, do the following one at a time to correct the problem. Reconnect the keyboard cables with mouse, keyboard and the main board. Always rest the Compaq laptop on a hard flat surface. This aids airflow under the Compaq machine and prevents the power socket pin being damaged.

Some companies charge for diagnosis - up to £100+. They are then able to quote ridiculous prices for the repair because the diagnosis fee is already secured. A few of our customers sent their machines to manufacturers, paid a £100+ diagnosis fee and were quoted £600+ for the repair. They declined and came to us for a much more cost effective repair.

Other companies expect you to pay hourly rates. This is flawed logic as a good engineer takes less time to complete a repair than a bad one. It means you pay extra for their incompetence. Error message of keyboard or touch-pad failure is shown or any key does not work. Try another good Keyboard or Touch-pad. Check for liquid spills on keyboard.
