CD-ROM Drive Test Error. An error message is shown when reading data from CD-ROM drive. Try another known good compact disk. Make sure it is install for correctly. Replace CD-ROM drive. All your programs and data are stored on the Pinner hard disk in your laptop. Important Dell data should be backed up on a regular basis. A few minutes copying your work to a CDRW can save hours of data re-entry. It might not be possible to repeat certain types of design and artistic work. Smart Pinner hard drives will sometimes warn of imminent failure, other warning signals include a change in drive noise and intermittent Tiny read errors. Any warning sign should be taken very seriously and the drive backed up ASAP, if possible. External USB or Firewire drives are an excellent means of Pinner backing up important data. They are almost as fast as the internal data and can be used to transfer your data to a new hard drive if your current drive fails. Older laptops may have a restriction on the size of drive that can be installed.

Some companies charge for diagnosis - up to £100+. They are then able to quote ridiculous prices for the repair because the diagnosis fee is already secured. A few of our customers sent their machines to manufacturers, paid a £100+ diagnosis fee and were quoted £600+ for the repair. They declined and came to us for a much more cost effective repair.

Other companies expect you to pay hourly rates. This is flawed logic as a good engineer takes less time to complete a repair than a bad one. It means you pay extra for their incompetence. One minute over the hour and you pay for and extra hour, why?? Worse still, they expect you to pay even when they don't fix your laptop.
